Hi all,
I have installed JS school tools template and I am having trouble getting the menu links to work. the 'HOME' button is working and I setup the other menu items the same way, but I'm getting the follow error

Not Found

The requested URL /about-us was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have searched the internet and nothing seems to work or is different to mine.

Steps I've taken

1. checked linking is correct
2. deleted and re-created new 'menu' and 'menu items' again.
3. installed dj-menu (not pro version) and setup module

Nothing seems to be making a difference. I can't believe I can't get this simple ? thing to work. It very frustrating.

Some help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Annie

Hello,
This problem seems to be related to Joomla SEO settings, please check options in System -> Global configuration -> SEO Settings (and make sure your .htaccess file is ok if you want to use URL Rewriting option).

docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Global_configuration#SEO_Settings_Group
docs.joomla.org/Enabling_Search_Engine_Friendly_(SEF)_URLs

Hi Artur,
Thanks for that, I'm really a newbie when it comes to SEF settings, what's the best basic settings for our site to be set at.
Reading the links you supplied didn't really help me decide how to set it up.

Thanks again
Annie

Hello,
This depends on how links should look like.

In the previous message you wrote about:

domain.com/about-us

Which means you should set up URL Rewriting option:
Search Engine Friendly URLs - Yes
Use URL Rewriting - Yes

Next, you should go to files on your hosting and rename the file in Joomla! root directory from:
htaccess.txt
to
.htaccess

After that, if the server supports mod_rewrite, links should work.

Hi Artur,

Yes I would like our site to be user friendly as suggested above.

I have tried to rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess

and got this error message

FileOp Failure on: /home/educate/public_html/htaccess.txt: Destination already exists

but I can't see it in the public_html folder, only the htaccess.txt file.

Will post attachment to show you.

Cheers Annie

Hi Artur,

I've got it working, thanks for your help, I just set NO to Use URL Rewriting.

I realised it was saying for Apache and IIS 7 users only.

Once I did this it worked, I just have the Search Engine Friendly URLs as YES.

Thanks again for you assistance.

Cheers Annie
