Quick Install Template

hi hull,

here are the steps:

1. you have to delete your current version of joomla before uploading the new one. if you still use bluehost, they should have made a backup for you, just in case, but you should double check with them.

2. after deleting your current version, unzip the "quickstart.zip" file to your desktop and open up your ftp program through bluehost (i use the one called "unlimited ftp," but you can use whichever one you like best).

3. you will have to manually transfer each of the files in the "quickstart" file to your public_html folder. it takes some time (it took me a few hours), but once you get them all there, your site will look like the demo. note: just transferring the "quickstart.zip" file to your public_html folder will not load the site! you have to unzip on your desktop and transfer each file individually.

hope that helps :)

Thank you - I did not copy the files, I just loaded the folder - this is where I made my mistake.
Once I go through the joomla installation, will the pages (sections/articles) of the website already be set up in joomla so I can just go in and edit text/pictures? Is there a forum/manual that will help with this process? Thank you for your response - it is very much appreciated.

yes, it will look exactly like the demo. the link that the admin gave to me a few posts up should help you...the admin here is good about responding if you need help also.

if you need help with using joomla itself (creating sections, articles, categories, changing text, etc.) there's a ton of info on the web, but the best place to go is joomla's forum. the tech people there are good about answering questions, but most likely your question has already been answered, so you can just do a search through their archives. here's the link: forum.joomla.org/

good luck :)

Still having trouble - all the files from the quickstart folder are now individually in my public_html folder on my server (it did not override the files that were already in that folder - they are now there in addition to the old files). I pulled up my website and it is still the old site - no joomla installation happening.
Getting really frustrated with this - I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
Is it a matter of changing the directory in bluehost? If so, is the directory file index.html that's found in the templates folder?
Thanks in advance for your response.

you missed step 1 - you have to uninstall your current installation of joomla before ftp-ing the new files. if you installed joomla through fantastico or simple scripts, you can just go back (to fantastico or simple scripts in your bluehost cpanel) and there's an "uninstall" button. if you installed it manually, contact bluehost tech support and ask them how to uninstall it properly.

in the quickstart.zip folder, i believe there's also an installation how-to that you can refer to. make sure you follow the 3 steps i gave you in order :

1. delete your current version (make sure you save any files you want - like articles, pictures, etc. - or they could be lost)

2. unzip the "quickstart.zip" file to your desktop and open up your ftp program through bluehost

3. drag & drop the individual files from the quickstart.zip folder to your public_html folder

Hi,
forgive me if I ask the same things...
I bought the eco-store template to use it in my already existing site, so I can't use quickstart installation because i don't want to lose all my data.
How can i have the exact copy of demo site, as i could have using quickstart?
I installed the template and the extensions, but how can I 'build' a site structure as the demo one?

Thank you very much
